Where the money comes from, plainly

This site pays for itself in two ways: affiliate links to wine shops, and advertising. Neither one touches what we write about a bottle. Here's the detail, no small print.

What an affiliate link is

When a bottle page links to a shop, that link carries a tag identifying the Club. If you go through it and buy, the shop pays us a small commission on your order.It costs you nothing extra: the price is exactly the same as if you had found the shop on your own.

The commission is usually around 5% of the wine, and it only counts if the shop records your purchase within a set window (30 days from the click, in Decántalo's case). If you buy something other than the bottle we linked, we still get the commission. We mention it because it's true, not because we're especially proud of it.

How we flag them

We don't want you finding this out by surprise, so buying links sit apart from the tasting notes in their own "Where to buy it" block, with a note underneath. Technically they carry rel="sponsored nofollow", the standard way of telling Google there's money involved.

We never drop buying links inside the review itself. The tasting is the tasting; the shop is a separate thing.

Who we work with right now

• Decántalo, through the TradeTracker affiliate network. It's the only active program today.

If we sign up to any others (we're looking at Bodeboca and Lavinia), they'll show up on this list before you see the first link.

Advertising

These pages carry Google AdSense ads. We choose where the slots go, but Google decides which ad you actually see, not the Club. If something turns up that clashes with the house style, it isn't a recommendation from us. Tell us athola@clandestinodecata.club and we'll block that category.

What we don't do

• We don't get paid to write a review. No winery pays to appear here.
• We don't link a bottle we didn't enjoy just to earn a commission. If a wine doesn't convince us, we say so and there's no link.
• We don't trade tasting notes for money. The commission comes from the shop, not the winery, and it doesn't depend on how kindly we write.
• We buy the bottles we taste unless we say otherwise in the text itself. If a sample ever gets sent to us, you'll read it on that bottle's page.

If you'd rather not give us a commission

Fair enough. Copy the bottle's name, look it up yourself and buy it wherever you like. The review is the same and we're just as happy that you're drinking it.

Drink responsibly

Everything here is for ages 18 and over. Wine is best enjoyed with a clear head and in moderation.
