Lorelay
A new project in the Valle de Güímar: high-altitude plots, minimal intervention and very few bottles.
Lorelay is one of those projects that starts with the hard part. It begins in the Valle de Güímar, on the south-eastern flank of Tenerife, working high-altitude plots of ungrafted, pre-phylloxera Listán Blanco on poor volcanic soils with a serious gradient. Hand picking, spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts and as little intervention as possible: the idea is to let the place speak for itself rather than impose a recipe on it.
The first wine is the Toto 2024, an orange wine from Listán Blanco grown in the Toto plot, up in Los Pelados at 1,400 metres. It produced 386 numbered bottles, released as a Vino de Parcela under the DOP Islas Canarias, the top rung of the Canary Wine origin pyramid. Starting a project up there, on the very first vintage, tells you a fair bit about the intent.
